This is our 8th season after a very successful season last January and complimented with data over the last 30 years we have learn't that the primary reason the Orca's are near the Canyons (not just Bremer Canyon but also Knob, Henry & Hood Canyons) is for the squid that come here every year to spawn, which weakens their defence mechanisms, this makes them an easy target for the Orca, Pilot and Sperm Whales.

Your family will join our family on board as we join with the Orca's to hunt for squid, competing with other canyon hunters in the Pilot & Sperm Whales, Seals and Sharks along with an audience of Antarctic Seabirds preying on the scraps left in their wake.

Bremer Bay is located 5 hours south east of Perth, Western Australia in the pristine Great Southern region.
 

It is from this small township we journey to the edge of the continental shelf to Discover the Dinosaurs of the Deep .. the Orca!

Our research team of marine specialists and scientists will educate you in the Language of the Whales with our onboard live commentary as active studies take place in this new frontier.

Our local knowledge base stretches back 30 years in the area and as we continue to build a data base of evidence the most exciting development is that we have only just begun!

The actual grounds are located at the apex of 3 Canyons, Bremer, Hood & Henry Canyon and the Orca are there to hunt the squid which are in a breeding cycle which renders them weak after spawning and an easy target for the Orca & other cetaceans including the Sperm, Pilot & very rare Beaked Whales. Massive amounts of krill are found in the canyons which are the bottom of the food chain and attract attention from a variety of sea life and in turn larger cetaceans and other fish life hunt the hunted...at the top of that food chain is the Orca.

When we speak of squid it isn't the calamari you get with chips at your local fish & chip shop, they are giant and colossal squid, capable of sizes up to 12 & 14 mtrs in length respectively and weighing in at up to 750 kilograms!

Whale Watch Western Australia not only researches but also educates in depth the knowledge gleaned from the actual pioneers that discovered the area 30 years ago and local knowledge stretches back even further, this being said, like all things change is inevitable and as we reach into the future today's evidence may act as a foundation to protect what we believe is one of the many great wonders of the world!

All of our research and identification data is provided to Curtain & Murdoch Universities along with DBCA and the Federal Government.

The Bremer Canyon is the feeding grounds of not only the Orca but also Sperm, Beaked & Pilot Whales as they hunt squid, tuna and other opportunistic prey in the nutrient rich upwelling waters of the Canyons.
