Once you arrive your friendly local guide, and expert astronomer, will provide comfy chairs and hot drinks to settle you in. Once you're set up, you'll spot far off galaxies, distant planets, mysterious nebulae, and millions of stars, and learn all about the mythology of the skies, deep space objects, and dark sky conservation. You'll also hook up your phone to the powerful Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, which will send live images of deep space straight to you. If you're an amateur astrophotographer, your guide will be happy to offer some handy hints on capturing the night sky, and, if you're an expert, you're guaranteed a spectacular canvas to exercise your creativity. There will also be the chance for an exclusive photo opportunity against the breath-taking backdrop of an ocean of stars.

Join Flagstaff Stargazing on a journey through the cosmos as we bring faraway galaxies, planets, and nebulae to you using telescopes, long exposure photography techniques, and the latest technology in deep space imaging.
To start our evening, we will get everyone situated with a chair and hot drinks, connect your cell phones to our Stellina telescope, and get our 8" computerized Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope calibrated for the evening.
While we wait for the images to "develop" from the first telescope, our trip through the cosmos will commence! Along the way we will be discussing ancient constellation mythology, modern astronomy, basic explanations of deep space objects such as galaxies and nebulae, and dark sky conservation topics. But all in all, our experience is designed to show our guests what true dark skies are all about. If you don’t know something needs protecting, you don’t know something needs protecting!
To end our evening, you will get one of the most unique photos in the Southwest...standing under a sea of stars in one of the darkest skies in the Southwest.
If you would like to bring your own photography equipment, we are happy to provide basic instruction to astrophotography and night-scape photography to help get you started!

What is the best time of year to go stargazing in Flagstaff?
All year is great as far as viewing is concerned, the big thing to consider is the temperature; it is cold at night here in the high desert of northern Arizona.
What is available to see in the night sky does change seasonally however. For each different season, you can expect to see the following:
Winter- Brightest stars and constellations, best time to see Orion Nebula
Spring-"Galaxy Season", we are turned away from the milky way during this period and this allows best conditions for viewing the Spring constellation galaxies
Summer- Tours start later as sun sets later. Milky Way is brightest as we are facing the center of our home galaxy
Autumn- Best time to see Andromeda Galaxy, brighter stars than Spring
Is it going to be cold?
Most likely, yes. Please plan on being far colder than you are expecting. The temperatures in the desert, even in mid-summer, drop very quickly once the sun goes down.
Is it customary to tip the guide?
Tipping is never expected nor is it required by any means, but if you enjoyed your time, consider tipping your guide to show your appreciation.
What if it is too cloudy to see any stars?
We do our best to plan accordingly for cloudy nights and monsoon season (July-September) by adjusting tour times to get into windows of clear skies every night.
If we are unable to adjust the plan and get out, we will offer alternative dates to reschedule, if we cannot get you rescheduled to a different date, we will provide a full refund or credit towards a future tour.

Autumn is best for Milky Way and Constellations
Start time varies depending on season.
Changes to reservations for tickets can be made until 8 days prior to the date scheduled. Reservations may be re-scheduled by the operator of the activity due to reasons such as weather, minimum participation requirements, mechanical issues or other interruptions beyond their control.
